SALON NIGHT

Evenings of local contemporary art alongside antiques & classics, come engage in conversation and build community.

WHAT IS A SALON NIGHT?

Gallery ATARAH's salon series revives the tradition of intimate artistic gatherings that flourished in 18th and 19th century European salons—spaces where artists, writers, and thinkers came together to share work, exchange ideas, and build community outside the constraints of formal institutions.

These weren't sterile exhibitions. They were living rooms filled with conversation, discovery, and the electric energy of creative minds engaging with each other's work in real time. Art wasn't meant to be viewed in silence—it was meant to spark dialogue, challenge perspectives, and create connections.

WHY ARE WE BRINGING IT BACK?

In a contemporary art world that can feel increasingly transactional and gatekept, we're returning to this foundational idea: that art thrives in community, and artists deserve spaces where their work can be seen, discussed, and experienced without the pressure of traditional gallery politics.

Our salon nights showcase 3-5 emerging and established artists in an intimate, conversational setting. We blend contemporary work with carefully selected vintage and antique pieces, creating dialogue across time—showing how artists of the past speak to artists of today, and how your work fits into a larger ongoing conversation about what it means to create from an authentic place.

HOW IT WORKS

Salon nights happen periodically as our artist roster grows. Our goal is to move toward monthly programming, but initially, these will occur as we build community and gather compelling bodies of work that speak to each other.

Each salon showcases work for 3-6 weeks, depending on gallery programming and artist availability. This gives artists time to invite their community, potential collectors, and anyone curious about their practice to experience the work in person.

All work on the salon wall is available for purchase, with a 65/35 commission split favoring the artist. These aren't just exhibitions—they're opportunities for artists to connect with collectors, build relationships, and find homes for their work.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Artists whose work carries genuine exploration. Work that comes from somewhere real and takes risks. We're particularly interested in photographers and mixed media artists, but welcome any medium executed with intention and craft.

There's no predetermined theme for each salon—instead, we curate based on how works interact with each other, creating unexpected conversations between pieces that might never share a wall in a traditional exhibition format.
