BEAUTY & DECAY: FALL FLORALS
SUNDAY NOV. 16, 2025

ABOUT TAWHIDA RAHMAN

Tawhida Rahman is a floral designer based in Queens, New York, whose practice explores the intersection of  memory, identity, and natural beauty. Anar Studios—named after anar, the Bengali word for  pomegranate, a jeweled fruit that symbolizes sentimentality, abundance, and raw beauty— approaches floral design as a form of  storytelling, building dreamlike worlds that invite viewers into moments of thought provoking  discovery. Her work draws from her own life experiences as well as her interest in art history and the world’s biodiversity. Exploring themes like family history, grief, transitions, and cultural heritage, she uses raw material to create works that feel suspended between reality and dream.

At 30 years old, Tawhida describes herself as being in her "second or third life," always asking: What's my next rebirth? This workshop at Gallery ATARAH marks a significant moment—her first time teaching a workshop,  and a chance to share not just technical skill, but the vulnerable, transformative practice of creating something beautiful from life's inevitable decay.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Timed to honor the transition out of summer into fall and winter—from fun and ecstasy into a season of reflection, slowdown, and sometimes grief—this workshop invites participants to pause rather than rush through change. Against the backdrop of Gallery ATARAH's inaugural exhibition "Bright Ruin," where everlasting art meets the ephemeral nature of living flowers, you'll be guided to create personal arrangements with respect to texture, shape, and spatial balance. Tawhida and Atarah will also invite you to partake in the act of self-reflection and vulnerability while making your piece of art.

WORKSHOP PHILOSOPHY

This workshop operates from a belief that creative practice and personal journey are inseparable—all the arts we  practice are apprenticeship, and the big art is our life.

By artistically and conversationally reframing moments of decay and transition, we're practicing patience with materials that have their own limitations and expiration. We're building worlds around this living medium, engaging with it in a way that connects to our lives and lingers once you’ve left the workshop.
