BRIGHT RUIN

by Atarah Atkinson

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, Bright Ruin, is a new series of allegorical photo-based mixed media works and sculptural installations by Atarah Atkinson. Her subject matter draws inspiration from the ruins, art, and architecture of Rome, a city whose layered history has made it the site of continual rebuilding throughout the centuries. Using the city as a physical representation of her internal experience, Atkinson meditates on themes of decay and renewal, beauty and destruction, and the cyclical nature of death and rebirth as it pertains to the self.
